While attending Baylor, Dr. Heisch researched the efficacy of one of the first electric toothbrushes on the market, within a geriatric population, and presented her published results at the 69th Annual Meeting of International Association for Dental Research in Acapulco, Mexico. This research later grew into a preventative oral health care program in a long-term care facility for the elderly in Dallas, TX. Dr. Heisch also earned the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Dentistry from the American Association of Public Health, and the Warner-Lambert Preventive Dentistry Scholarship in 1991.
In 1993, Dr. Heisch began practicing in Los Alamos, where she met and married her husband, Jim. She enjoys camping and riding bicycles and motorcycles with her husband and son. She also loves to cook and entertain in her home. One of her personal lifetime goals is to visit each National Park.
Dr. Heisch has continued her education throughout the years with a variety of courses, including, but not limited to: esthetic/smile-design dentistry, implant restorations, occlusal analysis
and design with Arrowhead Laboratory, nutrition, and courses covering the latest materials and their usage. Throughout Dr. Heisch’s time with this practice, many changes have occurred, but the standards of excellence and the practice of conservative, preventative dentistry have always been maintained.

She is a proud military supporter having a stepson and nephew serving in the USMC and another nephew in the Army. Her dad served in the Navy and both parents instilled the belief and value of putting others before yourself. Many extended family members have served in various branches of the military as well.
Deb is very much family oriented and loves spending time all together as much as possible. She is especially close to her nephew David and feels that they share a love of all things in nature. She is happily married to Bill and they enjoy baseball, 4 Wheeling, building custom hot rods and riding horses in the mountains. She also loves animals of all kinds. “I’ve never met any animal that I couldn’t find a bond with. My parents got so tired of me asking if I could bring another stray animal home, they just started making more space for them. Animals have a purity and innocence about them that I’m drawn to. When I was a kid fishing with my Daddy, I would kiss the worms he used as bait. My parents thought I was the strangest little girl with the biggest heart!” Her latest rescue is Casey a mixed breed, ten-month-old stray pup that is bringing much laughter and exuberance to the home.
“I think my best asset is the ability to put myself in other people’s shoes and empathize with them. In caring for people, I feel fortunate. I’m honored to be a part of such a great team here at High Mesa Dental Arts. I’m looking forward to many wonderful years working together with Dr. Cannon and Shari”.
